Dr. Dan Applegate - Superintendent of Schools

In the 2017-18 school year, we have much to be excited about as a district. As a result of the incredible show of community support in the passage of the 2015 Niles Community Schools bond, construction and upgrades across the district continue to move forward. As a district, we are well on our way to an improved learning environment, enhanced safety and security, increased access to technology, and improved energy efficiency, among other improvements.

Dr. A At the same time, we continue to work every day toward our first priority – improved academic achievement for our students.

I truly believe our schools are better positioned than ever for great success. In every grade level, our schools are continuing to push the limits of what is possible to offer the best education for our students.

I am grateful for the continued support of the community, the dedicated work of our teachers, the guidance of our board of education, the commitment of district-wide staff and the undying optimism and bright futures ahead for our student population.

My desire is to position every student in our district for a lifetime of success – whether that means pursuing a college education, entering into the workforce upon graduation, traveling the globe or doing important work right here at home. To accomplish this, I will continue to support decisions in the best interest of all of our students each day.

As superintendent, I will uphold our district’s mission to inspire and prepare all learners through diverse opportunities to challenge the present and enrich the futureI will also maintain laser-like focus on our strategic areas of not only student achievement, but also finance, operations, facilities, as well as a positive learning environment and communication.

We continue to explore different ways to meet the unique needs of our diverse student population. That’s the impetus behind programs like Niles New Tech Entrepreneurial Academy,
W-A-Y Niles and Cedar Lane Alternative High School, providing our families a diverse offering of learning options. I encourage you to explore our website to learn more about each of these programs.

I firmly believe schools are the heart of the community – driving success not only for our students, but for the city and surrounding region through increased economic investment, jobs, community improvements and the skilled workforce. We are not alone in making a difference in the lives of the children we are privileged to serve. We look forward to continuing to work closely with businesses and organizations across Niles who have demonstrated their commitment to our children. For that, I thank you for your support of Niles Community Schools and the students, teachers and staff who make this district great.

I look forward to seeing you in our schools and in our community!
