Mrs. Melissa Rough
I received my Master's Degree from Indiana Wesleyan and my Bachelors' in Psychology from Indiana University. I have always wanted to help children so I started my career at the St. Joseph County Women's Shelter. In 1994, I began working at the Youth Service Bureau as an at risk counselor within the Penn Harris Madison School Corporation. To meet the increasing issues of trauma in children I trained to become a Certified Trauma and Loss School Specialist through the National Institute of Trauma and Loss. In 2003, I became a trainer for Livingworks ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) program. I have trained doctors, psychologists, emergency personnel, police officers, social workers, teachers and the general public how to provide intervention to persons at risk of suicide. I am currently a Master ASIST Trainer. In September of 2015 I became a Certified Trauma Practitioner from the National Institute for Trauma and Loss.
In 2014, I decided to work closer to my home in Niles as the Behavior Specialist at Howard-Ellis Elementary. I love working with the students, staff, and families at Howard-Ellis. I was excited to take on the position as Assistant Principal in 2018. My goal is to help the staff, students and families continue to make Howard-Ellis Elementary the best school possible.
I married my husband, Greg Rough, in 2012. We have 4 children between us: my son, Austin Cooper, and his three daughters, Madisyn, Haley, and Courtney Rough. We love to spend time with our family and friends. My favorite thing to do to relax is read a good book. So you have have a good book you have read I would love to know the name of it!
