Degrees and Certifications:
BA Spanish, Minor French, Indiana University Masters in Education, Bethel college
My name is Mr. Tobin and I am excited to be teaching Spanish and French here at Niles High School. I was born in Germany and was raised in Spain and France. I went to Spanish publc schools for my Junior High and then after I finished my Sophomore year in High School, I moved to New York and finished my High school studies at Fordham Preparatory School in the Bronx, NY.
I learned French because I have French cousins that live in Paris and have a Farm in Normandy. Every summer I would visit them and I would get to practive my French with them. Of course, I always took French and German while I was attending the Spansih schools.
After I graduated High School, I auditioned for the Broadway Show, "Fiddler on the Roof" and was cast by Jerome Robbins. This started my Musical career and I was part of shows such as: The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, A Chorus Line, Can-Can, Chicago, Brigadoon, Marlowe, Oklahoma and many regional productions as well. When I was 24 years old, I decided to study classical singing and studied intensively for four years. I then won the 1st Prize awarded to me by the Paris Opera and started my operatic career. I sang throughout Germany, France, Japan, Budapest, Chicago, Indiannapolis, Delware & New York. I sang the dramatic tenor roles, such as: Radames, Manrico, Max, Siegmund, Oedipus (Oedipus Rex by Stravinsky) and Das Lied von der Erder in the renowned "Spring Music Festical" in Budapest as well as with Maestro Inoue in Tokyo, Japan.
I later played the title role of the Phantom in the Phantom of the Opera in Hamburg, Germany. After I broke my back during a live performance of The Phantom of the Opera, I followed my passion for languages and became certified to teach Spanish and French. I received my Masters Degree from Bethel College. I hope that this year will be a successful and productive one for all of us. I am looking forward to working with all of you, students and parents alike, to make this the best experience possible.
