Half Day of school
There is a half day for students on Friday, April 21st. Students attend school in the morning. Dismissal is at 11:58 am.
Reminder: M-Step Schedule
Starting this week our fifth grade students began taking Michigan's M-Step Assessments. Students in grades three through five will be participating in the State of Michigan's Assessment Program by taking the M-Step Assessments in either April or May. In addition, every student in kindergarten through fifth grade will be taking a reading and math NWEA test during these months. A note was sent home on Monday of this week with the schedule of all our testing. Please take a good look at the schedule and do your best to have your student at school on the day he/she is testing.
Bond Construction Work Begins at Balllard
During our spring break, construction work began at Ballard in the short hallway where our music room and the classrooms of Mrs. Tallis-Crowner, Mrs. Hoedema and Mrs. Shuster were located. These three teachers, with help from their students, moved their classrooms prior to spring break to other locations within the school. Mrs. Shuster is now teaching in what was the art room (room 28). Mrs. Tallis-Crowner is now located in room 8, and Mrs. Hoedema's class is in room 3. Music and art classes are being taught in the students' regular classrooms for the rest of this school year. Construction work will continue at Ballard throughout the summer and into the 2017-18 school year. Parents can rest assured that students are prevented from entering areas of construction throughout the entire renovation process. If you have any questions about construction, please contact Mrs. Hadrick or Mr. Eichenberg.
Spring Music Concert
First and second grade students will perform their Spring Music Concert on Tuesday, June 6th at Ballard Elementary School. The first grade concert will begin at 6:15 pm and the second grade concert will begin at 7:00 to accommodate our many parents and visitors. Please mark your calendars now to attend. More information will be sent home by Mr. Gruver.
Teacher Requests for the 2017-18 School Year
If you would like to request a certain teacher for your child, we ask that you submit those requests in writing to Mr. Eichenberg or Mrs. Hadrick by Friday, April 28th. When requesting a teacher, we ask that you have a first and second choice request. In addition, you should state why you are choosing these two specific teachers for your students. It is important for us to have these requests sooner rather than later. Requests received after the deadline may not be granted.
Ballard's Family Fun Night last month focused on reading. Every student that was here went home with a new book. Thank you to all who participated and came out to have fun with our staff and students. During March students logged 120,306 minutes of reading (at home and at school). That exceeded our goal! Students earned a Pajama Day due to their outstanding reading efforts.
Thank you to all the families that participated in the Great American Fundraiser. Items were sent home (or picked up by parents) on Wednesday this week. All money is due by Wednesday, April 26, 2017.
