    Report Cards/Spring Break

You will find your child's report card for the third marking period in his/her Friday folder today. If you have any questions please feel free to call your child's teacher. Next week is our spring break. We wish all of our families a fun/safe week off from school. See you for a full day on Monday, April 9th, when school resumes.

    Half Day of school

There is a half day for students on Friday, April 20th. Students and teachers attend school in the morning only. Dismissal is at 11:58 am.

     Reminder: M-Step Schedule

Starting the week after spring break our fifth grade students begin taking Michigan's M-Step Assessments through May 4th. Fifth grade students will be tested in Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Students. Students in grades three and four will take the Reading, Writing and Math M-Step Assessments in May. In addition, every student in kindergarten through fifth grade will be taking a reading and math NWEA test during these months.

Bond Construction Work Continues at Ballard

Many of our classrooms have been updated already since last spring. In April the south hall of Ballard will be under construction (rooms 4, 6, 7). These rooms will be closed off to students while construction takes place. Miss Putra has moved into her new room (where she was last year), Mrs. Herm is back in room 35, Miss Schrader will move from room 6 to room 22, Mrs. Santos will be in room 28, and Mrs. Betker will have Art in room 33. Their phone extensions will remain the same.

Mrs. Reith and Mrs. Hucks will move back into their newly remodeled rooms (38/37). Construction work will continue at Ballard throughout the summer. We hope to be done in the fall of 2018 school year. If you have any questions about construction, please contact Mrs. Hadrick.

Student Safety/Student Handbook With spring arriving and along with it warmer weather please revisit the parent-student handbook with your child(ren) to go over the dress code (pg 12), drop off/pick up safety guidelines (pg. 21/22), and volunteer information (for field trip/visits-pg 5). Due to the heightened concerns about school safety we have made a few minor changes concerning parent visits at lunch, on the playground, field trips and classroom volunteers.

Parents who wish to eat lunch with their students must sign in at the office and wear a visitor tag. (They can only eat with their child at the back table.)

Again, because of security precautions, parents are no longer to be on the playground.

Parents going on field trips and classroom volunteers must have a background check. These forms are available at the office and take several days to process. You may also request one from your child’s teacher.

    Spring Music Concert

Mark your calendars now for the 2nd and 1st grade music performances. The second grade students will perform their Spring Music Concert on Tuesday, May 29th and the first grade has their concert on Tuesday, June 5th. Both are at Ballard Elementary School in the gym beginning at 7:00 pm. Please mark your calendars now and invite family/friends to attend. More information will be sent home by Mr. Gruver as we get closer to the date.

Teacher Requests for the 2017-18 School Year

If you would like to request a certain teacher for your child, we ask that you submit those requests in writing to Mrs. Hadrick by Friday, April 27th. When requesting a teacher, we ask that you have a first and second choice request. In addition, you should state why you are choosing these two specific teachers for your students. It is important for us to have these requests sooner rather than later. Requests received after the deadline may not be granted.
