    Lakeland Athletic Training Program

We would like to introduce you to the Lakeland Athletic Training program.  Lakeland Physical Therapy has been contracting athletic training services to local high schools and Lake Michigan College since 1983. This service has provided thousands of athletes quality care in prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, conditioning and education of athletic injuries.   Our staff of  Athletic Trainers has dedicated themselves to these student-athletes and their endeavors on and off the field. We are pleased to continue this service for your student-athlete once again this year.

While each school is assigned a primary Athletic Trainer, it is possible that you and your son/daughter will have contact with any of our ATs from Lakeland Orthopedic Physical Therapy.

Meet our Staff of Athletic Trainers:

Matt Mabry, AT, ATC, CSCS - Assigned to St. Joseph HS.  Matt has been with Lakeland Orthopedic Physical Therapy (LOPT) since 1996.

Phil Jasheway PT, OCS, AT, ATC, CSCS  - Assigned to Lake Michigan Catholic HS.  Phil has been with LOPT since 1990.

Dan Tinkey, AT, ATC - Assigned to Lakeshore HS. and Lake Michigan College. Dan has been with LOPT since 1980.

Emily Schiltz, AT, ATC - Hired in 2008 to head our Medical Fitness Program at Bridgman HS and Lake Michigan College.

What Happens if my son or daughter is injured?

You will see Bob Taylor at your school 5 times a week after school and at most home games throughout the year.    Game Coverage is a decision mutually agreed upon by your Athletic Director and the AT.

If your son or daughter sustains an injury, Bob Taylor will be available to assess the injury during training room hours (after 3:00pm) at the school, as well as scheduled home events.

If an injury occurs at a time when the AT is not present, please contact Bob through your coach, athletic director or Lakeland Physical Therapy in Niles (683-6800 in the morning) or email him at:  ankltpr@aol.com

Should your son or daughter be seen by a physician and is prescribed physical therapy, we will be happy to assist with scheduling that appointment with one of our experienced group of  Physical Therapists, all with expertise in orthopedic injuries.  Having your physical therapy provided by Lakeland Physical Therapy helps complete the continuity of care between the Athletic Trainer, Physical Therapist, the physician and you.

We can be reached at (269) 683-6800 Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 6:00pm.  We are located in the Niles YMCA.  We are committed to the well-being of your child and look forward to enjoying a safe, healthy and successful season.
