Schools of Choice 2nd Semester Open Enrollment

Niles Community Schools is a "Schools of Choice" school district.  This mean that students who live in Berrien County, Van Buren County or Lewis-Cass County may apply for admission to Niles Community Schools without having to receive permission from their resident district to attend Niles Community Schools during the open enrollment time frame.  Students who are accepted under the "Schools of Choice" program may attend Niles Community Schools without any tuition charge.  

Applications for admission for the second semester of the 2018-2019 school year will be accepted from January 14 - 25, 2019.  There will be a limited number of openings.  If more applications are received than there is available space, a random selection process will occur, as required by state law.  Niles Community Schools will have the following openings:

Kindergarten - 6 openings at Eastside Connections School only;

1st Grade - 10 openings at Ballard Elementary, 3 openings at Howard/Ellis Elementary and 3 openings at Eastside Connections School

2nd Grade - 20 openings at Ballard Elementary, 15 openings at Eastside Connections School

3rd Grade - 20 openings at Ballard Elementary, 10 openings at Howard/Ellis Elementary

4th Grade - 25 openings at Ballard Elementary, 3 openings at Howard/Ellis Elementary and 8 openings at Eastside Connections School

5th Grade - 25 openings at Ballard Elementary, 10 openings at Howard/Ellis Elementary and 3 openings at Eastside Connections School

6th Grade - 8 openings at Eastside Connections School and 5 openings at Ring Lardner Middle School

7th Grade - 8 openings at Eastside Connections School and 7 openings at Ring Lardner Middle School

8th Grade - 5 openings at Ring Lardner Middle School only

9-12th Grade - Unlimited at Niles High School

There are no openings available in any of Niles Community Schools' special programs.

Parents who have applied on or before January 25, 2019 will be notified of the districts decision by letter or telephone.  If you child has been accepted, enrollment information can be accessed via the district website at nilesschools.org

Niles Community Schools' decision to grant or deny any application will be based on factors allowed under Section 105 of the State Aid Act.
