Based on a student's Home Language Survey (HLS) and World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) screener score, he/she may be eligible for English Learner (EL) Services. Niles Community Schools provides EL supplemental instructional programs to eligible children until they reach proficiency. These services support regular classroom instruction and focus on the student's language and academic needs to ensure success in school. The goal of all programs is for students to learn English, and to meet age-appropriate academic achievement standards for grade promotion and graduation.
To be exited from EL services, students test score must be 4.8 overall on the WIDA Access and be in third grade. Once exited, students are monitored for two years. Students with disabilities will be provided with services in conjunction with the services identified on his/her Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
